SINGLE SESSION: Sharpening

Learn to sharpen chisels, plane irons and other edged tools. A la carte class in our Hand Tools series.

Date & Time

Feb 18, 2024, 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM MST

6102 Jefferson St NE Ste D

Class details

What is sharpness, and how do you achieve it? Learn to sharpen edged tools such as chisels and plane irons for effective, precision results in your woodworking. This class will focus on how to use sharpening stones, but we'll also discuss powered methods.

If you have one, bring a plane iron, bench chisel, spoke shave iron or drawknife you would like to sharpen; otherwise there will be tools to practice on. (Please do not bring heavily damaged tools that are severely chipped, bent, rusted, etc.)

We will not cover kitchen knives or carving tools.

About the series

Our complete Hand Tool Academy series teaches fundamental techniques for traditional woodworking with hand saws, planes, chisels, scrapers, spokeshaves and more. You'll get a deep dive on a different set of tools each session. These classes serve as the prerequisite for our Hand Tool Joinery classes, where you can learn to make mortise and tenon joints and build a box with handcut dovetails.
